(Pre-course, online module plus 2 half day webinars with additional reflective summary)

Advance HE is working with a range of higher education providers across the UK (including Coventry University Group) to deliver the generic professional development for External Examiners. The aim of the professional development course is to enable aspiring, existing or experienced Examiners to develop their understanding of the External Examiner role.

You will be required to undertake pre-course online learning (most participants find that these take around 4 hours to complete) as part of this training. If you have not completed the pre-course learning unfortunately you will not be able to attend the sessions as the pre-work informs the activities.

What are the benefits?

The outcomes of the course are that the attendees will:

- Understand more about the role of the external examiner as articulated in the UK Quality Code for Higher Education and be confident to undertake this;

- Develop a deeper understanding of the nature of academic standards and professional judgement and explore the implications for external examining;

- Use evidence-informed approaches to contribute to impartial, transparent judgements on academic standards and the enhancement of student learning
