Description

After a short introduction attendees will learn how to configure Wikidata for optimum usability. They will then undertake a number of simple exercises to add lavbels, descriptions, statements and references to Wikidata items. They will learn how to query Wikidata to extract infomration, and use third-party tools to both edit Wikidata and visualise query results. Particular attention will be paid to Wikidata's corpus of academic citation metadata.

What is Wikidata? Who owns it and what is its culture? Wikidata’s sister projects. Suitability for inclusion – the “notability” requirement. Dispute resolution. Setting up an account. Adding statements. Adding citations. Creating new items. How to make queries. Useful tools. Where to get help and support.
