Description

In 2015, more than 150 world leaders signed 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to achieve a better future and sustainable consumption of the world resources. Achieving these goals is the world's responsibility and is a journey. We won't be able to start this journey if we wait for understanding every single aspect - answers will develop as we progress through this journey. Coventry University signed SDG accord in 2017 and is now committed to contributing achieving those goals in all University activities. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) aims to embed these 17 goals into curriculum design and lesson planning. This will provide our students with the skills and knowledge they need to help achieving the goals after graduation and become more responsible global citizens.

What are the benefits?

ESD has now considered in the Coventry University Curriculum 2025 strategy. This workshop provide our academic staff the opportunity of practicing how to embed and integrate the goals into their module/course learning outcomes. More than 80% of our first year students would like to see more SDG s in their studies.  This shows the importance of having embedding SDG into curriculum in increasing students' engagement and satisfaction.

This workshop and we focus on introducing the goals and specific targets for every single goal to increase awareness of our academic staff regarding SDGs. The participant will also have the chance to see how education can contribute to achieving the goals.

Topics covered include:

Sustainable Development Goals & Education for Sustainable Development
