Description
This module is part of the Doctoral Supervision Programme. The module has been designed by the Doctoral College and Centre for Research Capability and Development.It is highly recommended that all supervisors complete this course. The course provides all the necessary information needed to supervise doctoral candidates under the new framework at CU. The course covers the support structures, the organisational processes and regulations, the framework, the expectations of supervisors and PGRs, the activities that the PGR would be undertaking during the first part of their studies, and the role and responsibilities of supervisors a the different stages.This module does not include information about the examination process, as this is covered by other modules of this Programme.This is a fully online module, based on Moodle, running between 2 – 22 January 2019. The course is estimated to take participants approx. 3 – 4 hours of work.
Topics covered include:
- The research degree framework at CU- Institutional structures to support PGRs and supervisors - The role of supervisors in the research degree journey- Ethical issues and implications in providing appropriate guide to candidates
Who should attend?
Supervisors who are new to the role and those who want to refresh their knowledge of the current regulations and curriculum framework for doctoral degrees at CU. Academics who are expected to start supervising doctoral students in the next few months.
