This will be a participative workshop which will explore some new areas of Indian culture. It will build on the content of the "Introduction to Indian culture/s" course and pursue areas that were raised as areas of interest at this session .

What are the benefits?

• The workshop will give participants the opportunity to extend their knowledge of Indian culture/s in the areas listed above.
• Participants can also bring their own questions about Indian culture/s which our Indian associate can give their personal perspective on.
• The workshop will provide staff with an opportunity to share their experiences with other colleagues.
• We will also be able to advise people on where they can seek further information about particular areas of Indian culture.
• Participants will be able to learn a few new useful words/phrases in Hindi and Hinglish.

Topics covered include:

• Some additional, everyday phrases in Hindi and in Hinglish, and more on Indian names
• Communication areas only covered briefly in the "Introduction to Indian culture/s" course, for example, showing politeness and body language
• Attitudes to gender, age and status, time and planning
• Building relationships with Indian colleagues and partners including: use of titles, approach to task, meeting etiquette, giving gifts etc
• Indian holidays and festivals

Who should attend?

Any member of staff working with Indian students, colleagues or partners. Indian colleagues are also warmly invited to attend to share their perspectives and experiences.

It is expected that staff attending this workshop will already have attended the "Introduction to Indian culture/s" course.
